With the club entering its 10th year of existence, both the men’s team – which will play its ninth full league season, and women’s team – in its inaugural season, are looking for local talent to join their squads!
Both Lane United FC teams will hold their open tryouts with three sessions each across two days: Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26. Interested trialists should plan on attending all of the sessions in order to give themselves the best opportunity to showcase their talent to the technical staffs.
Last year, two players from the open men’s tryouts ended up earning places on the roster. Defender Reilly Combs, a center back from the Oregon Institute of Technology, showed well and joined the club upon the end of his school year in June. Another center back, Modou Sowe, a Eugene resident and former Rowan University player, not only made the squad, but played a crucial role on the backline during the USL League Two season. The left-footed, Gambian defender started all seven matches in which he played, completing the 90 minutes six times. His season ended when he suffered a shoulder injury away to Oly Town FC, causing him to miss the team’s final three games.
As he looks towards the 2023 tryouts, men’s head coach John Galas highlighted, “Historically we’ve always had success in identifying talent through our trial. We’re excited to host another open trial this year in hopes of signing a few players for the upcoming season.”
For his part, the women’s team manager, Jurgen Ruckaberle, stated that, “We’re thrilled and excited to be part of providing opportunities for top female players to join the growing USL W League in the Northwest Division.”
Interested players can find out more information and register for the open tryouts via the club’s website. For any questions regarding the tryouts, or for details on possible discounted hotel rooms for those attending from out of town, trialists can reach out via the club’s Contact Form and someone will reply shortly.
